At Fujifilm in Tilburg, an old production hall for packaging photo rolls was transformed into a high-tech production facility for making cell culture media. Fujifilm engaged Kuijpers and its PP4CE partner SRBA Controlled Environments (SRBA CE) to design and realize the controlled environment facilities in the building. The production facility was completed in February 2021.

Fujifilm was in discussions with SRBA CE in the third quarter of 2019 about their new plans and hthey then introduced the PP4CE concept. Following this, talks between Kuijpers and Fuji’s management started and Kuijpers was commissioned at the end of 2019 to realize a 1,725 m² cleanroom in accordance with the GMP construction principle. Here, the cleanroom stands completely on its own within the construction shell, which Fujifilm took care of itself. In addition to the cleanroom, two more laboratories of 350 m² and 100 m², respectively, were built.

Multidisciplinary team

Kuijpers thus became the main contractor for the major project and worked together with SRBA CE, among others, in a construction team to develop an integrated approach. In doing so, the team started to translate the basic design, which was already there, into a functional design that met the extremely high demands placed on clean rooms and laboratories. Good organization was also a must on construction. Not only to monitor the progress of the project, but also to keep an eye on the health and safety of employees on the construction site. After all, the hundred people who walked around there every day also had to work within the Corona regulations in force at the time.

SRBA CE deployed the widely known walkable BPV 100 ceiling with HPL sheet material and the Fraunhofer certified BCPS wall system with HPL finish. The complete furnishing in the clean room as well as the laboratory was provided by SRBA Clean Interior.
